As Hurricane Katrina hit the shores of the Gulf Coast, Mid-Michigan was already fighting back.
Saginaw-based LB Transportation Group & Omni Warehouse began coordinating donations and collecting much needed supplies for the victims of the August 29 storm.
The first of four semi-truck loads has already left this morning.
LB Transportation Group’s driver will arrive in Donaldsonville, Louisiana around 4:00p.m. today, bring water, diapers, canned food, juice and paper goods. The Donaldsonville Dream Center (as seen on the Good morning America) will be accepting the donations and distributing to the displaced victims of Hurricane Katrina.
Together with LB Transportation Group, many Mid-Michigan businesses and organizations have help with recovery cause.
Fueling company Pacific Pride has donated large quantities of truck fuel while Michigan-based Wieland Ideal Lease donated the use of their company trailers to help get donated provisions to the Gulf Region. Several of LB Transportation Group’s company drivers and owner/operators have also volunteered their time to transport the goods to the necessary facilities.
Midland-based Savant, Inc along with the Girl Scouts, the Boy Scouts, and Midland High School students and staff has donated numerous pallets of items.
“The original intent was to do what ever we could to collect donations from the Saginaw, Bay City and Midland area, but this has now expanded to the Detroit, Flint, and Lansing and Grand Rapids area,” states Tony Lander, president of LB Transportation Group. “The response has been truly remarkable. We started out with one truck, we have now expanded this to four.”
Other local businesses have been strategic drop off locations across the Tri-Cities region. Mid-Michigan 7-Eleven stores and Midland’s Java Trading have collected hundreds of donated items from countless neighbors and businesses.
More is needed! Additional trucks will be headed south this week. A second truck will be leaving Thursday loaded with donations from Delphi Headquarters in Troy and the Saginaw Steering Division. LB and Omni Warehouse has staged a trailer in Troy for most of the day in Troy and the Saginaw Division has been adding their donations as well.

Together, we will make a difference!
